Contact Lost Heritage

Each house can raise so many questions. Broadly, I'll try and help whenever I can but my interests and resources are heavily focused on the architectural aspects of each house. Although I may have some information about the owning families, my archive doesn't cover those who worked there, but I may be able to point you in the right direction (though this is usually the local records office, national census, and local history societies).

I would be very grateful for any images or information you may have about the houses in the list. One source which I feel is often overlooked are family photos albums so if your family once did have a now lost house, please check if it has been captured as I, and many others, would be grateful to see them.

Please email Matthew at:

If you are emailing regarding a specific house please remember to include the name of the house in the subject line of the email. Please note that it may take a little while to reply due to the number of enquiries but thank you for your patience and interest.

Media Enquiries

I am more than happy to share my research and images (if they are from my collection) for use in newspapers, magazines, TV, etc for a small donation per image (from £50) to go towards covering some of the costs of this hobby. I have provided research and comment for a wide range of companies including Tiger Aspect, Oxford Film and Television, Betty Productions, and the Sunday Express. My specialism is obviously the lost houses but can also provide information and opinion on country houses today - particularly the challenges they face and those at risk.

If you would like me to assist, please email on the above link with details of the house, the nature of the programme/article and any deadlines. Please note that this is a hobby so I do not have access to my research and images during working hours so I need at least 24-hours notice - and ideally longer - to provide images etc. However, if your deadline is shorter, please feel free to contact me and I'll see what I can do.
